Tanzania’s foreign ministry confirmed that one of its nationals was killed by Hamas during the October 7 attacks in southern Israel.
Two Tanzanian students, Clemence Felix Mtenga and Joshua Loitu Mollel, were part of a group of 260 Tanzanian youths who went to Israel for a farming internship through a partnership program between the two countries.
The Israeli government had reported Mtenga and Mollel as missing since the attack.
Last month, Tanzania’s foreign ministry announced the death of Mtenga without providing further information on the circumstances.
On Thursday, Foreign Minister January Makamba stated that the Israeli government informed them about Mollel’s immediate killing after being captured by Hamas.
According to the BBC, the Tanzanian authorities are making arrangements for Mollel’s relatives, including his father, to travel to Israel accompanied by a government official.
Their purpose is to meet with the Tanzanian ambassador and Israeli officials and gather more information about the incident.
