There seems to be a resurgence of COVID-19 in Nigeria, as the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced 25 new cases in Benue State.
Ogechukwu Chigbo, WHO’s Surveillance Officer for Benue State, told newsmen at a one-day Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Media Engagement meeting on the COVID-19 ramp-up in Makurdi.
Chigbo said the dreaded disease is still prevalent and advised people to protect themselves from the virus through vaccination.
According to her, the virus has been the major reason why people are not breaking down to it despite the negative rumors about it.
She pointed out that the country is in the season when the virus becomes so active, hence the need for Nigerians to take advantage of the availability of vaccines to tackle the menace.
Chigbo maintained that the vaccines are safe and assured that they will protect Nigerians from coming down with severe infections.
The first confirmed case in Nigeria was announced on February 27, 2020, when an Italian national in Lagos tested positive for the virus.
On March 9, 2020, a second case of the virus was reported in Ewekoro, Ogun State, as a Nigerian came into contact with the Italian national.
