The remains of the former governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), have arrived in Nigeria from Germany, where he succumbed to protracted and debilitating prostrated cancer affliction.
Reports said that the aircraft that conveyed the body of the late governor arrived in Nigeria about 3:39 p.m. on Friday, January 5, 2024.
The body was received by his wife, Betty l Anyanwu-Akeredolu, his children, and siblings led by Prof. Wole Akeredolu, the late governor’s immediate younger brother.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, represented by his Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde; Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Tokunbi Talabi; and the representative of Osun State Governor, Senator Demola Adeleke, also joined in receiving the body.
The Chairman of the Ondo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Ade Adetimehin; a member of the House of Representatives, Gboyega Adefarati; and some Ondo State Government officials were also present at the airport to receive the body of the late governor.
Family members, friends, and associates could not control their emotions as the body of Akeredolu was being lowered from the plane.
Akeredolu passed in Germany on December 26, 2023.
It was, however, gathered that the late governor’s remains have been deposited at the morgue until the burial.
His family had said the details of his burial arrangements would be announced at a later date.
