The burial programme of elder statesman and one time Minister of Power and Steel Development in the second Republic, Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo, will now take place in November2024 instead of the March date that was earlier announced.
A statement signed on behalf of the family by Prof. Steve Torkuma Ugbah stated that the family took the ‘hard decision after due consultations with friends of Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo (OFR), and major stakeholders’.
Part of the statement reads:
“It is with all sense of responsibility that I inform the general public about the postponement of the burial programme of our father, uncle, leader, and Elder Statesman, Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo (OFR), earlier scheduled to take place from Sunday, 3rd March, 2024 from Jos, Plateau State to Saturday, 9th March, 2024 at Unongo Village, Turan, Kwande LGA of Benue State, Nigeria.
“The burial has now been rescheduled to hold from Sunday, 24th November, 2024, from Jos, Plateau State, to Saturday, 30th November, 2024, at Unongo Village, Turan, Kwande LGA of Benue State”.
According to the statement, the family highly regrets any inconvenience the postponement might cause for those who had earlier made arrangements to attend the burial of Wantaregh Paul Iyorpuu Unongo (OFR), as earlier scheduled for March 2024.
“The family craves your indulgence to maintain and even improve upon your earlier arrangements so that, together, we shall give our beloved father, brother, uncle friend, leader, associate, and Elder Statesman, a befitting burial, deserving of a true patriot.
“The new burial dates are from Sunday, 24th November, 2024, in Jos, Plateau State, to the final interment on Saturday, 30th November, 2024, in Unongo Village, Turan, Kwande LGA, Benue State, Nigeria”, he added.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to Russia calls for prayers for the Unongo Family during this moment of grief.
