PLASU partners Police for security of students

Acting Vice Chancellor of Plateau State University, Bokkos, Prof. Shadrach Best has expressed the readiness of the university in partnering with the Plateau State Police Command for the establishment of a police station in the university.

He said the presence of a police station on the campus will further strengthen the security of the institution against external forces.

Prof. Best stated this when he received new Commissioner of Police, Yabanet Steve in his office on a familiarization visit to inspect security gaps towards closing them for the safety of students, lecturers and staff of the Institution.

He said the university over the years has suffered from various security threats ranging from criminal trespassing by herders and violent attacks on both staff and students by criminals elements.

The Acting Vice Chancellor noted that the university is ready for the establishment of a Police station within the university campus and call for regular patrols on the Bokkos Barkin-Ladi road stretch for the safety of both staff and students as well as members of the community plying the road at all time.

The Commissioner of Police assured the university management of his commitment to collaborate with school managements in enhancing campus security of all tertiary institutions in the state.

He disclosed that the visit will be replicated in all tertiary institutions in the state aims at identifying challenges and implement viable solutions.

CP Steve hinted that the Inspector General of Police had created a unit by flagging off the “operation safer schools” aimed at protecting higher institutions nationwide.

He assured that Plateau State University, Bokkos would benefit from the initiative through the allocation of resources and manpower.
