The Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD-a German Academic Exchange Service) held a workshop with the team from Benue State University, Makurdi – Nigeria at their office in Bonn, Germany. The workshop aimed at streamlining discussions primarily about funding the cooperation and partnership programmes of Benue State University, Makurdi and German Universities.
The Benue State University team was led by the Dean of Graduate School, Prof. Tarhule Vearumun who also represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Tor Iorapuu, Dr. Elijah Ikpanor Agege Shar & Dr. Shadrach Teryila Ukuma. They made presentations on the Benue State University’s internationalization policy, research priorities, research interests, cooperation plans, Students and Faculty exchange targets and nature of MoU with German Universities.
While expressing satisfaction and excitement at the readiness of Benue State University’s in commencing the implementation of MoU projects with German Universities, the DAAD team commended the BSU team for outlining their priorities, making it easier for the German Universities to adopt programmes for funding. The DAAD team comprised of Lena Leumer, Competence Centre for International Scientific Cooperations (KiWi) Christoph Hanser, Head of Development Cooperation Unit Silvia Schmid, LST32 of DAAD Anja Meerschiff, Berlin Headquarters of DAAD.
The DAAD team acknowledged that BSU has been on their programme for in-country/in-regional fully funded scholarship programme for M.Sc and PhD in Food Chemistry and expressed optimism that the University could get more funding for students and faculty exchange, research projects, graduate programmes, postdoctoral research short stay and faculty stay programmes at the German Universities that have established partnerships with Benue State University, Makurdi.
The BSU team thanked the DAAD team and promised to sustain the cooperation projects initiated through the partnering Universities in Germany for the benefit of funding opportunities for students and faculty exchange, research and competence expansion for Benue State University.
