The Senate yesterday removed Senator Ali Ndume (APC, Borno State) as its Chief Whip and also stripped him off his position as the Vice Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, moving him to Chair the Committee on Tourism.
Replaced by senator Tahir Monguno (APC, Borno North) as the Chief Whip of the senate, Ndume’s removal was sequel to a directive issued to the senate in a letter addressed to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio by both the National Chairman and Secretary of the ruling All People’s Congress Party (APC), Mallam Umar Ganduje and Senator Bashir Ajibola respectively.
In a voice vote, the senate took a unanimous decision to effect the removal of Senator Ndume after the complaint letter against his ‘unbecoming’ utterances as the Chief Whip of the senate was read by the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio on the floor of the senate.
Senator Ndume who was absent during plenary yesterday had been making critical remarks about President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, the economic hardship, food scarcity and the concomitant security crisis affecting the country.
However, Tahir Monguno who hitherto is the Chairman Senate Committee on Judiciary was presenting yesterday during plenary when his name was brought forward as replacement for the critical senator Ali Ndume and immediately sworn into office.
