Ocean Ark is a revolutionary fish farming vessel developed by Ocean Ark Tech of Chile in partnership with Ocean Sovereign. The vessel is a 170-meter-long and 64-meter-wide motorized trimaran designed to operate in offshore waters, where conditions are optimal for aquaculture. It features low-emission technology, artificial intelligence, and self-cleaning copper cages, which are essential for maintaining fish health and reducing environmental impact.
The vessel’s mobility allows it to avoid harmful environmental conditions like marine heatwaves, storms, and algal blooms, which are common challenges in traditional coastal aquaculture. This capability not only improves the quality of the fish produced but also reduces the need for transporting fish over long distances, cutting down on associated emissions. The Ocean Ark can accommodate a biomass of up to 4,000 tons, and it is designed to produce healthier, higher-quality fish at lower costs than existing aquaculture systems.
The project has received approval in principle from the marine classification society RINA, marking a significant milestone in the development of this innovative aquaculture solution. Construction is planned in collaboration with shipyards in Turkey and China.
