Francis Nwapa: The self-appointed activist, and pestle-wielding critic

By Kelvin Adegbenga

Self-appointed activists, the idle and idling, twittering, collective children of anger, the distracted crowd of Facebook addicts, the TikTok soap opera gossips of Nigeria, and others have made social media more like a weapon in their hands. These individuals appear to be competing with one another to bring down IGP Kayode Egbetokun.

Since they are so diverse, many of this army of self-appointed and supported anarchists are unaware of the motivations for or methods for attacking the Inspector General of Police.

No wonder one self-appointed activist, Francis Nwapa, “lambasted” the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, for inviting the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero, to “Police Headquarters” in Abuja for questioning why he is living on the outskirts of Abuja.

Public affairs commentary faces a threat from the large number of stupid individuals who keep repeating stupid clichés and the large number of brilliant people who waste their talents by giving meaningless conclusions.

The slow-witted Nwapa said that the police chief’s invitation of the labour leader to merely question him on why he was living in the outskirts of Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, is proof that he is merely a puppet in the hands of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and that he is not concerned about the escalating insecurity in the country.

I am not saying nobody should not criticise the Inspector General of Police, but the Twittering and Facebook crowd of the new age must be guided by facts.

Nobody is more committed to the Rule of Law than IGP Kayode Egbetokun. Despite unforeseen challenges that Nigeria Police had to contend with, IGP Kayode Egbetokun is doing his utmost to positively transform Nigeria Police.

I laughed when I read that part of the imbecilic Nwapa tweet that says, “Egbedukun has proven to be a puppet of Nuhu Ribadu under the command of President Tinubu.”.

IGP Kayode Egbetokun is a very intelligent, mathematician, and clever man who is adept at persuading anyone who tries to doubt or underestimate him. He understands very well how significant it was when he became Nigeria’s Police 001.

He is focused on having a police force that is professionally competent, service-driven, rule-of-law compliant, and people-friendly.

To show how harebrained Nwapa is, he said that the IGP Egbetokun “should make use of his time in locating Yahaya Bello. Is Egbetokun the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission?

To finally prove that Nwapa is cretinous, he made mention of “over 40 protesters killed during the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.” I want to challenge him to give updates on who killed the imaginative 40 protesters.

IGP Egbetokun is more focused on a police force that will effectively support the agenda of the government for economic recovery and growth, as well as the social and political development of Nigeria.

Together, we will create a future in which law enforcement is genuinely trusted by all citizens, where the weak find comfort, where justice is served, and where people may go about their legitimate business without fear of harassment or intimidation.

Finally, let me state that although IGP Kayode Egbetokun is a simple man, simplicity does not equate to naivete. The world would be different today if naiveté were synonymous with simplicity.
