… participants, all schools smile home with prices
Through a vast display of unique intellectual fireworks, Command Science and Technical Secondary School (CSTSS) Rinze, Akwanga emerged Victorious at the grand finale of Sabon Salo Inter Secondary Schools debate in the Trish Hall of Kini Country home, Akwanga earlier today, Friday 30th August, 2024.
The programme which was organized by the Sabon Salo Scholarship team and proudly sponsored by Hon. Jeremiah Umaru, ACA, ACTI, brought together thirty-five (35) secondary schools from the Constituency to compete in a regimented and conducive environment.
The debate which has as topic “Primary Health Care is Better in the Hands of Federal Government not local Government” was a total showdown as the proposing school was Baptist Academy, Wamba with 75.5 points while CSTSS RINZE taking the Opposing side with 85.5 points.
Despite stiff competition, the CSTSS RINZE team remained resolute and focused on the prize; through outstanding performance and intellectual views, where the speakers came first, earning accolades from both crowd and their peers.
Speaking at the event, Rep. Umaru who represents Akwanga/Nasarawa Eggon/Wamba Federal Constituency and the Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee expressed delight at the level of participation of the students from the constituency and the quality of debate displayed by all the participating schools.
He emphasized the importance of fostering a culture of critical thinking and debate among students, highlighting its role in shaping future leaders and problem-solvers. The Honourable Member encouraged the students to see the Inter-School Debate Competition as a platform to exchange ideas, challenge perspectives, and hone their communication skills. He appreciated the Sabonsalo team, Nurses, teachers, and teens leadership camp facilitators for their resilience and coordination throughout the camping period.
Cash prizes and brand-new laptops were given to individuals and winning schools to further motivate the present and future participations.
For individual prizes, the best speaker got a new laptop and ₦500,000; a laptop and ₦250,000 for runner-up and laptop and ₦150,000 for 2nd runner-up.
For schools, winner smiled home with ₦1 million, 5 laptops and educational materials; ₦700,000, 3 laptops and educational materials for runner-up and ₦500,000, 2 laptops and educational materials for 2nd runner-up while other participating schools banked on ₦200,000 and educational materials as consolation prizes.
As the winners basked in the success of their team, they extended gratitude to the Honourable Member and his team for the initiative and expressed anticipation for future editions of the Inter-School Debate Competition where they noted that the event was not only a showcase of academic excellence but also an opportunity for students to engage in intellectual discourse and socialize beyond the borders of their schools.
