Church commissions classrooms it renovated in FCT community, as it urges AMAC to equip schools

By Abbanobi -Eku Onyekachi, Abuja

In line with among others, its, ‘Back to School Program,’ His Treasure House International Ministries, Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has Monday commissioned a block of two class rooms and an office it renovated at the Local Education Authority (LEA) Primary School, Durumi II, located in Durumi III Community, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the FCT.

While commissioning the class rooms, the office and presenting books, bags, writing material, among others to the school, the Ministry’s Lead Pastor Godwin Uwubanmen, appealed to the Area Council, to as a matter of importance and urgency, do more in its efforts to equip and develop public schools. He said that equipping and giving public schools their requisite equipment and development will avail indigent children to enjoy what their rich counterparts are enjoying at private schools.

“AMAC is the closest government to the people. I hail them for performance, but my appeal is that, whatever they are doing, let them redouble it, because most children in the public schools can’t enjoy what those in the private schools are enjoying. So let government take proper care of the public schools, for the interest of the indigent children.”

When asked, the pastor informed that the reason why they have been assisting the school regularly is due to the fact that it is within their catchment area, even as he added that they wouldn’t be coming to the school’s assistance, if the management hasn’t been utilizing their assistance to the school, saying, “God doesn’t encourage wastage.”

“This is one of the schools within our catchment area, we have been assisting, for public schools to have access to some of those things private schools have access to, and our target is for the people to glorify God from what we are doing,” Pastor Godwin Uwubanmen explained.

Among what the Ministry has been doing, according to the lead pastor are visiting hospitals and offsetting bills of those who couldn’t do that; organizing free medical treatment in community schools; visiting prisoners; giving scholarships in public schools to indigent students. All these, he informed that they have been doing through members’ goodwills and donations.

Head of Exam Unit, LEA, AMAC, Solomon F. Jabi, when spoken to hailed the Ministry for the gesture, eve as he advised the school’s management to utilize the assistance given to them. Jabi also said that the government can come in to fence the school, provide security and post more qualified breachers to the school.

Similarly, the Headteacher, Mrs Franca Durhen Kaslong promised to ensure that the assistance from the Ministry is well utilized. Decrying neglect of schools, the headteacher therefore said that the abandonment of schools should be blamed on the government.

“Due to the neglect we have been suffering at the hand of the government, we have been going on strike. Abandonment of schools should be blamed on the government. We usually embark on strike, due to the fact that the government doesn’t pay our entitlements.

“So while I hail the giant strides of this Ministry in this school, I shall ensure that the assistance is utilized. As I appeal to the government to recognize our efforts and also take proper care of schools, I call on parents to do their parts as we the teachers are doing our own,” the headteacher appealed.
