The Nigerian Senate has denied claims that it abandoned its late colleague, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, during his burial in Nnewi, Anambra State.
According to Yemi Adaramodu, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Media and Publicity Sunday, the Senate gave Senator Ubah all the honors and rites befitting a sitting Senator before his burial in Nnewi on Friday.
The Senate, he went on dedicated an entire legislative day to paying tribute to the late Senator, a first in the history of the National Assembly, even as he went on to say that his seat was adorned with the national flag, a huge honor recognizing his contributions to the Senate and the people he represented.
“The Senate President Godswill Akpabio, led a high-powered delegation to the Lagos residence of the late Senator to commiserate with his wife and children. Almost 100 Senators attended a valedictory session held in his honor, where senators, including Vice President Kashim Shettima, paid tribute to his accomplishments.
“The Senate’s actions demonstrated its respect and appreciation for Senator Ubah’s contributions. Substantial members of the Senate were in Nnewi on behalf of the Senate, which had earlier reached out to the family before his burial,” Adaramodu explained.
