NASS debunks fake news on 2025 budget presentation

By Abba -Eku Onyeka, Abuja

The Office of the Secretary, Research and Information, National Assembly (N/Ass) Complex, Abuja, has issued a clarification on a purported fake news circulating on social and mainstream media. The fake news alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would present the 2025 budget to a joint session of the N/Ass on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

Dr. Ali Barde Umoru, Secretary, Research and Information (SRI), N/Ass, described the news as false and urged members of the public to disregard such information. He advised that any official enquiry and clarification should follow the official communication channels of the National Assembly.

It is worth noting that President Tinubu had earlier transmitted the 2025-2027 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and the Fiscal Strategy Paper (FSP) to the National Assembly. However, the N/Ass is yet to approve the 2024-2026 MTEF and FSP forwarded by the President.

In a related development, the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, had announced that the 2025 budget proposal is ready, with a projected budget of N47.9 trillion.
