The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has appointed Mrs. Talatu K. Ethan as its new Director, Public Relations. Mrs. Ethan brings over two decades of experience in multiple leadership roles and expertise in Food Science and public engagement to her new role.
A Bachelor of Science degree holder in Microbiology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Mrs. Ethan also holds a Master of Technology degree in Microbiology from the Federal University of Technology, Minna. Her notable certifications include ISO/IEC 17025 Laboratory Assessor, Food Safety Management System (FSMS), Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) Lead Auditor, and Certified Food Scientist of Nigeria.
As a national expert in food fortification and vitamins/minerals analysis, Mrs. Ethan has made significant contributions to advancing public health initiatives in Nigeria and beyond. She has created awareness on food safety and nutrition and has engaged in several sensitization campaigns to support Nigeria’s non-oil sector.
Mrs. Ethan’s distinguished career includes serving as SON’s Director for the North Central Region, Lagos Operations, and South-West Regional Operations. She has also headed the Micronutrients Laboratory and served as the Head Codex Contact Point for Nigeria, demonstrating exceptional leadership in these roles.
With extensive experience in standardization and quality assurance, Mrs. Ethan is well-versed in quality management systems, Food Safety Management Systems, Codex activities, audits, and process optimization. She excels in fostering continuous improvement to achieve operational excellence and customer satisfaction.
Mrs. Ethan is also an expert in laboratory analyses, specializing in vitamins, minerals, Mycotoxins, and Pesticide Residues testing. Her experience spans operating advanced analytical instruments, conducting precise experiments, and interpreting complex data.
As a member of various professional and scientific organizations, including the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria (MSN), AOAC-Africa Section, and the Global Micronutrients Forum, Mrs. Ethan is committed to research and continuous learning. She has participated in numerous training programs globally and is dedicated to advancing the Standards Organisation of Nigeria’s public relations initiatives.
Mrs. Ethan succeeds Mrs. Foluso Bolaji, who has assumed duties as the Director, Human Resource Management of the Standards Organisation of Nigeria. With her wealth of expertise and commitment to excellence, Mrs. Ethan is poised to strengthen SON’s public relations efforts and enhance its stakeholder engagements.
