The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has urged security agencies in the FCT to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents to enjoy the end-of-year festivities.
Barr. Wike gave the charge during the FCT Security committee meeting held on Friday, December 20, 2024. The meeting was convened to assess the level of preparedness of security agencies for the security of lives and property of all residents.
The Minister emphasized that residents should be able to sleep with their eyes closed at all times, without fear of insecurity. He noted that criminals often take advantage of festive seasons to perpetrate their nefarious activities, but assured that the security agencies are prepared to provide adequate security.
In a related development, the FCT Minister had earlier presented 50 brand new operational vehicles to security agencies in the FCT to support the fight against insecurity.² The vehicles are part of the FCT Administration’s efforts to enhance the operational capacity of security agencies in the territory.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Tunji Disu, has also assured that the security agencies are intensifying efforts to ensure a hitch-free celebration. He disclosed that joint teams of all the security agencies will embark on clearance operations in the coming days, and urged residents not to panic at the sight of high-power security operatives.
