Youth Council, CSOs warn politicians against weaponizing violence

By Khadijat Ibrahim, Abuja

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) in collaboration with the Conference of Civil Society for Peace, Security and National Development condemned the alarming rise in insecurity across the country and issued a strong warning to politicians allegedly fanning the flames of violence for political gain.

Addressing the press, NYCN President, Amb. Solomon Adodo, lamented the deteriorating state of national security, stating that, “Fear and uncertainty have taken root. Families mourn their loved ones, businesses suffer, and our collective peace is under siege.”

The coalition alleged that certain politicians are deliberately stoking insecurity as a tactic to undermine President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. “Credible intelligence and troubling reports suggest that some politicians are actively sponsoring violence, arming criminal bandits, and manipulating public sentiment to undermine the government,” Adodo revealed.

He described such actions as a betrayal of leadership, asserting, “Insecurity must never be weaponized for political ambition.” The group called for immediate accountability, insisting that anyone found culpable must face the full weight of the law regardless of their political affiliation.

While highlighting the challenges security operatives face, the group commended the efforts of the military under the leadership of Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Christopher Musa, and Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede.

“Under their command, our armed forces have made significant strides in dismantling terrorist networks, neutralizing bandits, and destroying operational bases of ISWAP/Boko Haram,” the statement read.

The coalition urged all Nigerians to support security agencies, report suspicious activities, and resist being manipulated by politicians who thrive on chaos. “The fight against insecurity is not just the government’s responsibility, it is also ours,” Adodo emphasized.

In conclusion, the youth and civil society leaders affirmed their solidarity with the armed forces and issued a stern message to the enemies of peace: “Your schemes will fail, for the collective will of the people of Nigeria is stronger than your ambitions.”

The event marks a unified call for national action against violence and a renewed appeal for peace and unity across the country.
