Doose Naswem, a 16 year old from Mbangur, Mbadede, Vandeikya Local Government Area of Benue State, same as the Executive Governor of the state is in the news again for good reasons.
This time around, it is because she has garnered a whopping 369 points out of 400. A result that is outstanding by every standard especially, at a time failure rate in the examination is alarmingly high.
2025 JAMB UTME Scores as announced reveals that over 75% of JAMB candidates nationwide scored below 200 points and only 0.63% of all candidates nationwide scored above 300.
For the young Miss Doose of SORA HEIGHTS, Gboko to have scored 98 marks each in three (3) subjects of Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry as well as 75 marks in English Language, totalling 369 is plausible and worthy of celebration.
Though it is reported that multiple candidates from SORA HEIGHTS have scored above 300, Doose’s score is the highest so far not only in the school but the state in general with no one above her as at the time of this report.
Doose, it was, who clinched the overall first position in the National Science Quiz Competition for the senior secondary school category, held at Federal Capital Territory, (FCT), Abuja during the Science Teachers Association of Nigeria (STAN) conference held in August, 2024.
She reportedly competed with students from Lagos, FCT Abuja, Anambra, Ogun, Osun amongst others but emerged the best in a world where science is almost exclusively assumed to be for the males.
The Executive Governor of Benue State, His Excellency, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, represented by his deputy, Dr. Sam Ode recently received Miss Naswem alongside her mates from Kusaki College in Government House, Makurdi following her victory at the national competition.
The Governor praised the dedication and intellect of the young scholars, affirming the crucial role of Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) in shaping the future of the state.
He acknowledged the contributions of the proprietors, staff, and students of SORA Heights and Kusaki College, both of Gboko, for providing the foundation for the young talents to excel.
The trophies and winners were presented to the Governor by the Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan (who had earlier received them in his office), assisted by Rt. Hon. Nick Eworo, Commissioner for Science and Technology.
Congratulations Doose, her dear parents Prof. Angol/Barr. Dr. Stella Naswem, Sora Heights, Gboko and Benue state in general. More grace for the race ahead. More wins in the coming days. Hurray!
