Sir Arinze Anadu, the President General (PG), the Anambra State Town’s People Association (ASTPA) in Abuja the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has commended the Senate for recommending the immortalization of their illustrious son, the late Rt. Hon. Agunwa Anaekwe, former Speaker of Nigeria’s Federal House of Representatives.
Anaekwe passed away on July 6, 2025, at the age of 69.
The PG granted interview to journalists over the weekend in his office in the FCT.
Chief Anadu (Nwachinemelu), described Anaekwe’s leadership style as exemplary and selfless, worthy of emulation by today’s leaders.
According to Anadu, Anaekwe’s courageous stance against anti-democratic forces and his commitment to democracy are qualities that can strengthen Nigeria’s democratic system.
The ASTPA extended condolences to Anaekwe’s family, community, and the people of Anambra State, Igbo nation, and Nigeria.
They praised Anaekwe’s contributions to the fight for democracy in Nigeria, particularly during his tenure as Speaker at the age of 36.
A motion was moved by Senator Victor Umeh and co-sponsored by several senators, recommending the immortalization of Anaekwe by the Federal Government.
The Senate’s decision aims to permanently honor Anaekwe’s legacy and service to the nation.
The Nwachinemelu therefore urged today’s leaders to emulate Anaekwe’s leadership style, which he believes will help move Nigeria’s democracy forward.
“His death is an irreparable loss to his Adazi Ani Community, Anambra State, Igbo people and Nigeria in general. We however thank God for his exemplary and selfless leadership worthy of emulation. My prayer is that God gives him eternal and peaceful rest and give those left to mourn the fortitude to bear the loss” the Nwachinemelu prayed.
