The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwande Local Government Area today 18th July 2025 held a crucial stakeholders in Adikpo town, bringing together critical stakeholders and leaders to assess the party’s current state and fortify unity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This meeting aligns with the state working committee’s directive to strengthen membership and unity across all party levels.
During the meeting, Zone ‘A’ PDP Senatorial hopeful, Hon. Thomas Tyolumun Unongo led the party into observing a minute of silence as a mark of respects to defenseless Kwande farmers tragically killed by Fulani invaders in Turan and Ikyurav intermediate areas, leaving many homeless.
The Kwande PDP stakeholders equally vowed to work tirelessly to ensure the party’s resurgence in the area come 2027.
Kwande Local Government PDP Chairman Hon. Daniel Tyochivir Iyom emphasized the party’s open-door policy but emphasise that the party under his leadership will welcome new members while pushing out those deemed unfit.
He said a committee has already been established to investigate dual membership cases, with plans to expel those found guilty.
State Deputy Chairman Chief Azua Ashongo had earlier explained that the emergence of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has eliminated factionalism within Benue PDP, paving the way for Kwande PDP to make significant gains in the 2027 elections, including claiming the governor and Senate seats for Kwande people.
In his remarks, Thomas Tyolumun Unongo, a key party stakeholder, had strongly dismissed claims of internal division, assuring that the party has overcome its leadership crisis with the exit of some influential figures.
Unongo cautioned politicians who are out to undermine zoning of key political offices to reconsider their actions ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speakers selected across the four blocks of Kwande including Turan (Elder Jonathan Ichaver), Ikyurav-ya (Hon. Akuha Gbande), Ishangev-Ya (Charles-Mary Avul), and another leader from Nanev (Hon. Terhile Iorchir all expressed unwavering confidence in the PDP, pledging to revitalize the party in their respective wards and polling units.
The meeting demonstrates the party’s commitment to unity and its determination to reclaim power in Benue State.
The meeting is a renewed focus on internal cohesion and strategic plan for the PDP to stage a strong comeback in the 2027 general elections.
