The Executive Chairman of Buruku Local Government Area, Hon. Zege Raymond Aondoakura, has directed the immediate construction and furnishing of a new home for Mama Kpendoon Buruku.
Mama Mbaadoove is the only surviving child of the late Pa Buruku Akeji, a historical figure after whom the entire Local Government Area is named.
The chairman’s decisive action came on Wednesday during a chance encounter. While returning from an official engagement, Hon. Aondoakura noticed the aged woman living weeding out grasses on her yam farm near the road side.
The images from the scene as attached show Mama Mbaadoove, appearing frail, near a modest traditional mud hut, a sight that prompted the chairman to intervene immediately.
Visibly moved by her plight and her significant link to the heritage of the land, the council chairman stopped his convoy to speak with her.
Upon learning of her identity and seeing her living situation, he declared that it was unacceptable for the daughter of the land’s founding father to lack a befitting home.
“The legacy of Pa Buruku Akeji is the very soul of our local government,” Hon. Aondoakura stated. “It is a matter of honour and our collective duty to ensure that his direct descendant, our mother Kpendoon, lives in the dignity and comfort she deserves. We cannot celebrate our history while neglecting the very custodians of that history.” he added
The chairman has issued a directive for work to commence without delay on a modern apartment for Mama Kpendoon. He further instructed that the new home must be fully furnished to provide her with a secure and comfortable living environment.
The gesture has since met with widespread commendation from residents of Buruku town, who have praised the chairman for his people-oriented leadership and his tangible respect for the area’s foundational history.
