Excellent Women Int’l conference tackles drug abuse, illicit trafficking with focus on women’s role

The Excellent Women International (EWI) held its 23rd Annual International Conference, themed “The Role of Nigerian Women in the Fight against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.”

The conference brought together stakeholders to discuss the critical role women can play in addressing this pressing issue.

Dr. Christabel Regan Okoye, National Coordinator of EWI, emphasized the importance of involving women in lawmaking to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

According to Dr. Okoye, women play a vital role in shaping the nation and the home, and their participation in decision-making processes is crucial.

Dr. Okoye stressed that without women, homes and nations would lack direction and purpose.

She advocated for increased representation of women in lawmaking bodies, citing their unique perspective and sense of responsibility.

The conference highlighted the need for a collective effort to address drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Dr. Okoye emphasized the importance of educating women on the dangers of drug abuse and empowering them to take an active role in preventing it.

Excellent Women International aims to reprogram women’s lives and equip them with knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in their communities.

The organization’s annual conference provides a platform for women to come together, share experiences, and learn from each other.

Similarly, Doctor (Mrs) Chinyere Ezenwokike, co-founder of EWI and founder of Tomorrow’s Women Development Organization (TWDO), emphasizes the importance of collaboration in addressing illicit businesses and promoting positive change. She stresses that working together with government agencies, communities, youth groups, students, and schools is crucial to making a meaningful impact. According to Ezenwokike, EWI and TWDO have achieved success in rehabilitating youths and children, and their work involves taking them off the streets and providing them with knowledge and skills.

By collaborating with various stakeholders, Ezenwokike believes that their efforts can lead to tangible results and a brighter future for Nigerian youth.

However, Miss Chiamaka Okoye, hailed the organization for effective awareness creation against drug abuse and Illicit trafficking, even as she charged the women to wake up to their responsibility of ensuring that the youth shun the illegal practice.

A coalition of stakeholders, including government agencies and non-governmental organizations, have converged to tackle the pressing issue of drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Nigeria.

Key participants in the effort include Eruka Chizoba, Assistant Director, Non-Governmental Organization Liaison, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA); and Mrs. Olorunfemi Olubukola, Director, Community Outreach and Development, National Orientation Agency (NOA).

Others were: Mrs. Nnenna Emedolibe, representing the National Council of Women Societies; CF Digha Bomana, representing the Controller General, Nigerian Fire Service; CSP Ogoh Anna Ochanya, representing the FCT Commissioner of Police; and Mrs. Christiana Motomboni, representing Alhaji Sherifat Wumi Ajao, Chairperson, FCT Police Officers Women Association.

These individuals and organizations are working together to address the issue and promote a safer, healthier community for all Nigerians. Their collective efforts underscore the need for a multi-faceted approach to combating drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

The conference concluded with a call to action, urging stakeholders to work together to address the issue of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.

Dr. Okoye’s message resonated with attendees, highlighting the critical role women can play in shaping a brighter future for Nigeria.
