President Bola Tinubu has assured Nigerians that his administration will remain strong despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping trade tariffs, which now place a 15% levy on Nigerian exports. Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday,
Tinubu stressed that Nigeria’s growing non-oil revenues and improved fiscal outlook would cushion the effects of the new trade regime.
Tinubu pointed to the government’s success in surpassing its 2025 revenue target ahead of schedule and the recent appreciation of the naira as proof that Nigeria’s economy is becoming more resilient.
He added that with agricultural reforms and food security programmes underway, the country is better positioned to withstand global economic shocks.
The President also used the occasion to recall his long-standing political journey, including clashes with the late Muhammadu Buhari during the formation of the APC in 2013.
He described their disagreements as part of the democratic process that eventually produced a united opposition strong enough to defeat the PDP in 2015.
