Marine and Blue Economy Commissioner embarks on familiarisation visits

…Receives assurances of support

The Honourable Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy in Benue State, Hon. Denis Ter Iyaghigba, on Monday, 8th September 2025, embarked on a series of familiarisation visits to key government institutions and functionaries in Makurdi, the Benue state capital.

 

A press release signed by Mr. Lubem Gena, the Head of Media, Publicity and Orientation to the Commissioner indicated that, during the various visits, Hon. Iyaghigba pledged to work collaboratively towards advancing Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s development agenda.

Hon. Iyaghigba met with top government officials, including the Commissioner for Justice and Public Order/Attorney General of the State, Prof. Ornguga Yangien; the State Head of Service, Dr. Moses Agbogbo Ode; the Director of the Budget Office, Mr. Terlumun Asaa; the Accountant General of the State, Mrs. Theresa Nyitse; the Acting Clerk of the Benue Planning Commission, Mr. Orinya Ogenyi; and the Area Manager of the Nigeria Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Samson Onubun.

 

While interacting, the officials pledged their support to the newly created Ministry, the commissioner and expressed readiness to work hand-in-hand with the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy to unlock the economic potentials of Benue’s waterways.

 

They assured Hon. Iyaghigba of all necessary assistance to enable him to effectively deliver on his mandate.

 

The functionaries also reiterated their commitment to Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia’s vision of transforming Benue State through sustainable policies, infrastructural development, and economic diversification and expressed happiness that he is part and parcel of the system.

 

Hon. Iyaghigba appreciated the warm reception accorded him and assured stakeholders of his resolve to bring innovation and accountability to his office, noting that the success of his ministry depends on strategic collaboration with other government agencies and partners.

On the visits were the Commissioner’s aides and allies including: Hon. Terhemen Atii; Hon. Richard Imoter Nomkpo; Hon. Paul Bebe; Dr. Harris Dera; Mr. Lubem Gena; Mr. Francis Maande; Prophet Isaiah Gbem; Mr. Ephraim Makar and Charles Adasu.

The commissioner’s visit marks a bold step in building synergy aimed at positioning Benue State as a hub for marine and blue economy activities in the country.
