The pioneer Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy in Benue State, Hon. Denis Ter Iyaghigba, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Remembering Home Forum, an association comprising individuals who lived on Iorkyaa Ako Street, High Level, Makurdi more than 20 years ago.

The group, led by Mr. Andrew Aondohemba Ayue, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner in Makurdi on Thursday, 11th December, 2025, where they presented the award in recognition of his exemplary public service and rising profile in the state.

Part of the text of the award reads: “Your achievements brings pride to our community, Remember Home Forum”.

Hon. Iyaghigba described the visit and award as a nostalgic homecoming, noting that it symbolised unity, shared history, and the enduring bond among former residents of the well-known Makurdi neighbourhood.

He expressed profound gratitude to the group for remembering him despite the passage of time, saying their gesture had further strengthened his resolve to serve with integrity and passion.

The Commissioner urged members of the forum to take a strong interest in the activities of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, stressing that the Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia had identified huge untapped potentials within the sector capable of boosting the state’s economy.

He appealed to them to support Governor Alia’s second-term bid to ensure continuity in good governance, infrastructural expansion, and human capital development.

Earlier, Mr. Ayue said the forum decided to honour “one of their own” who has distinguished himself and attained a position of high responsibility.

He urged the Commissioner to remain committed to his duties and continue to be a source of pride to the community. The delegation also offered prayers for his success in office.

Other members of the delegation included Mr. Sydney Iorcher, Mr. Aondowase Usu, and Mr. Targema Ioryue.
