Chief Simon Okeke, the revered Ochendo Ndigbo, has advised Igbo leaders to live true to their values of industriousness, hard work, and community spirit.
Okeke gave this advice when the Association of President Generals (PGs) of Igbo speaking states in Abuja visited him at his Abuja home to congratulate him on his 90th birthday.
The Ochendo emphasized the importance of collective efforts in improving the well-being of individuals and communities.
He recalled how the Igbo people had bridged the gap with other ethnic groups through hard work and unity, noting that they had become one of the most economically empowered groups in Nigeria.
Okeke urged the Igbo people to continue working together to improve their well-being and that of those around them.
He emphasized the importance of setting a good example for others to follow, saying “know yourselves, be an example for others to copy”.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chairman Chief Marcel Ezeagu described Okeke as a symbol of unity, sacrifice, and resilience.
Ezeagu said the Ochendo is a title that signifies protection and shelter for all, noting that Okeke embodies the values of the Igbo people.
The delegation expressed confidence that Okeke’s legacy would continue to inspire future generations.
The Ochendo expressed his gratitude to the delegation and prayed for God’s continued blessings on the Igbo people.
