The Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial District, Emmanuel C. Nwachukwu, has called on constituents to embrace the solemnity of Lent with deep reflection, repentance, and renewed commitment to God and humanity.
In a message to the people of Anambra South on Wednesday to mark Ash Wednesday and the commencement of the Lenten season, the lawmaker described the period as a sacred time of spiritual renewal and introspection for Christians.
According to him, the symbolic marking of ashes serves as a reminder of human mortality and total dependence on God’s mercy and grace.
“Marked with ashes, the ancient sign of our mortality, we are reminded of life’s fleeting nature and of our total dependence on the mercy and grace of God. It is a solemn call to return to Him with humble hearts, contrite spirits, and renewed obedience,” he stated.
Senator Nwachukwu noted that Lent provides an opportunity for sincere repentance, forgiveness, and a recommitment to lives of holiness, compassion, and self-denial. He emphasized that in a world often filled with distractions, the season calls for stillness, prayer, fasting, and acts of charity.
The lawmaker urged residents of Anambra South to use the holy period to seek peace with God and with one another, strengthen family bonds, uplift the weak, and extend love to the vulnerable in society.
He further prayed that through sincere sacrifice and acts of mercy, God would grant the faithful the grace to journey through Lent with perseverance and ultimately experience spiritual rebirth and divine favor.
