Eastern Union (EU), a foremost Civil Society Organization (CSO), has stated that Ndigbo had never wasted their votes at any election and will not waste it in 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by the Eastern Union National President, Hon. Charles C. Anike, on Tuesday and made available to Journalists, in Abuja, the group criticized politicians who allegedly claimed that Ndigbo wasted their votes in the past elections as a result of their voting pattern.
Hon. Anike, in the statement, insisted that Ndigbo will collectively continue to take informed decisions on who to elect with their bulk votes.
“No real Igbo person can be bought with money or anything against his conscience; however, we are not ruling out the activities of mixed multitude amongst us.
“In 2027 we will vote enmass for the candidate of our choice and conviction, no matter, whatever financial inducement or anything else.
“We are independent minded people, not like others. We don’t do eye services and we are not hypocrites.
“In 2027 we must as usual, surely use our bulk votes to make clear statement across the country, no matter who may be hurt. Our stand is always very clear and that is ‘operation take back our country’ from political bandits, charlatans and patrons of terrorists.
“This useless and cheap method of referencing of Ndigbo voting pattern in the previous elections has to stop.
“Many politically confused individuals, instead of exploring a new and viable methods of convincing our people to vote for their sponsors in the coming elections, would rather continued to reference our voting pattern in the previous elections, which in their shallow thinking were wasted votes.
“What a cheap political blackmail? And what a careless and useless statements? Wasted votes, how?
“That people voted according to their conscience and conviction, and someone as a result of ignorance of the dynamics of politics, descended so low to call such block voting pattern waste votes.
“So in their miscalculation any vote that doesn’t translate to winning amounts to wastage, even when it was obvious that those elections were rigged by the powers, usually working against the free will of the Nigerian people.
“The truth remains that Ndigbo has never at any point wasted their votes, rather they have always successfully used their block votes to speak loud and clear their positions in every elections.
“They make bold and valuable statements on what their choice was at any given time. It is therefore very disturbing and unfortunate that most people with negative and selfish vested interests would always run to the media and public gatherings to try to deceive themselves by trying to discredit the voting pattern of Ndigbo in the past elections.
“They out of selfishness are trying to brainwash our people to believe that they wasted their votes by voting for their choices who were rigged out through the institutionalized corruption.
“Someone was spotted recently at a rally shamelessly in his further efforts to deceive our people distorted histories, just to buy their conscience with stipends to achieve selfish financial and political ambitions.
All these nonsense must stop because good enough, our people unlike others are very enlightened and independent minded.
“No matter the amount of financial and other inducement, we know exactly where we are and where going. All those noises and old stories of don’t waste your votes are rubbish and doesn’t hold water. Instead wasting energies traveling that route, it’s advisable that people should sell their candidates by pointing to their past achievements and records, rather than those cheap blackmail.
“After all democracy is all about freedom of choice and association. And it is even noticed compulsory that a candidate someone voted for must always win; there must always be winners and losers. People are now well informed and can easily access informations.
“Public and open campaign have not even been officially permitted, but due to desperation and lawlessness, newly recruited political bandits and touts are already eager and are everywhere showcasing.
“Though Nigerians may not be able to stop them, since they presently and temporarily controls and dictates what goes on in the Country.
“But the truth is that Nigerians are not deaf or blind, we know our enemies.
