1986: Told his daughter to put poison inside his food when next she brings him food.
Deputy Superintendent of Police George Iyamu, Bendel State Police Command.
Iyamu was a senior anti robbery police officer caught in the web of conniving with the dreaded Lawrence Anini gang.
He was arrested, tried and sentenced to death.
One faithfully sunny day, his daughter brought his usual food to his holding cell. She tasted the food as usual at the counter, Iyamu brought out and handed his usual home-cooked meal.
In that little space of being with his daughter, Iyamu told her that he doesn’t want his execution by firing squad to cause pain and shame to the family.
What Iyamu said first didn’t get approval from the daughter but she later agreed to do his wish.
He ‘ordered’ her to add some poison when bring his next meal which was in the evening of same day.
Then came time for evening meal. She arrived as usual, handed the cooler of nice cooked meal to the police officers at the counter, she was about leaving when they said, come here, come taste am.
She refused tasting the meal which sounded weird to the officers on duty.
Every thing said to her to taste the food fell on deaf ears. Immediately, the IPO ( Investigating Police Officer) was called to the counter.
Oga IPO, your suspect pikin no wan taste food wey she bring for DSP.
The IPO told her it wasn’t new a law and she’s tasted other meals so why this? She still refused. According to unverified news, the IPO took some of the food outside and fed to a police dog secured around the station, few minutes later, ‘officer’ Dog was no more breathing.
While she still insisted on not tasting the food, Iyamu heard her voice from his cell and was shouting, leave her alone it’s a special food she cooked for me.
She was arrested but later released while the poisoned food was thrown away as she said she was under the order of her father.
Iyamu was still executed by firing squad at the same Ekenwan shooting range that Lawrence Anini and co were executed.
