Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has acknowledged the contributions of the Catholic Church to societal development particularly in Benue State.
He stated this during the celebration of the new rectory and fund raising for building of father’s Residence held at the Church of Assumption, Nege-Ateku in Mbatiav, Gboko local government area of the state
The governor who was represented by the Speaker, Benue State House of Assembly, Mr Aondona Dajoh, assured that his administration would continue to show commitment and support the activities of the church at all times so as to do more.
Speaking in his capacity, Mr Dajoh promised that the tenth assembly would continue to enact quality laws that would create a favourable environment for government and the private sector to operate and thanked the Catholic church for the much it was doing for the betterment of the society.
In his remarks, Chairman of the occasion and Special Adviser to the Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Dr. Dennis Akura praised the pivotal role of the church in moulding moral values and called on individuals and groups to always find reasons to support the propagation of the gospel.
In their separate speeches State ALGON Chairman, Mr Philip Achuah and General Manager, Benue Links Company, Mr Alexander Fanafa all praised the ideals of the church saying they were happy with the development indices of the church and sued for sustained prayers go for Governor Alia and his government to continue to execute endearing policies and programs for People of the state to enjoy.
Earlier in a homily, Dean of Agidi Deanery, Monsignor, Reverend Father Henry Terwase Akaabiam emphasized the need for children of God to make a different anywhere they find to themselves by being Godly in their ways of life to people so that God will Clean them of their sins.
On his part, the central planning committee comrade Titus Terdue Atondu commended the Governor for having the plight of Mbatiav people at heart.
Highlights of the event was the presentation of award of excellence to the Governor as “dependable son of the Mbatiav people” and to commander 401 Special Forces Brigade as the “worthy friend of Mbatiav people” by Rector, Church of The Assumption.
