In a significant development aimed at addressing pressing concerns, the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASSLAF) Executive, led by High Chief Emeka, today held a crucial meeting with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr. Tajudeen Abbas. The meeting, marked by a spirit of collaboration and constructive dialogue, highlighted several critical issues demanding attention.

The Chairman of NASSLAF eloquently articulated the forum’s concerns, emphasizing the need for clarity and resolution. Among the key issues raised were the prompt disbursement of Duty Tour Allowances (DTA) in accordance with established civil service regulations. The Chairman lamented the irregularity in payments, necessitating urgent intervention.

Additionally, the forum advocated for the expedited processing of outstanding payments, particularly the 28-day allowance and the 35000 Federal Government Palliative, which have been long overdue. Another pressing matter addressed was the provision of transport buses, with NASSLAF requesting donations to bolster organizational efficiency.

Furthermore, the forum underscored the importance of budgetary increments to facilitate the procurement of essential tools, such as laptops, for legislative aides, ensuring optimal performance in their duties. Training opportunities, both domestic and international, were also discussed, reflecting NASSLAF’s commitment to enhancing the skills and capacity of its members.

In response, Speaker Tajudeen Abbas commended the forum for its proactive engagement and assured swift action on the raised concerns. He pledged to address the issues of DTA and outstanding payments, promising to explore avenues for timely disbursement. He informed the organization that modalities for payment of the 28-day allowance had begun according to the CNA. He also promised to donate a bus to the organisation and partnering with the FCT administration and the government of Abia State for more buses to enhance effective service delivery. Speaker Abbas expressed solidarity with NASSLAF’s quest for improved working conditions and affirmed his commitment to fostering a conducive environment for legislative aides. He promised to include the proposed NASSLAF Secretariat project in the 2025 budget.

Moreover, Speaker Abbas emphasized his commitment to collaboration, promising to work closely with NASSLAF to achieve common goals. He highlighted the importance of competence in the recruitment of aides and emphasized the significance of fostering a conducive working relationship between the leadership and legislative aides.

As the meeting concluded, both parties expressed optimism about the prospects of addressing the identified challenges.
