The Senate suspended Senator Ningi over allegations of N3.7 trillion padding of the 2024 budget.
Senator Ningi, the then chairman of the NSF and a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) representing Bauchi Central Senatorial District, made the allegations on the BBC Hausa Service, accusing the National Assembly of budget padding and misinformation related to the 2024 budget.
In a resolute response to the claims made by the Senator regarding alleged wrongdoing in the 2024 budget, the Northern Senators Forum (NSF) unequivocally distanced itself from the assertions, describing them as uninformed and grossly unparliamentary.
Senator Ningi was then suspended for three months after a long, stormy session in the red chamber under the leadership of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Senator Abba Moro pledged to assume full responsibility for Senator Ningi’s actions, acknowledging the gravity of the suspension. The senator’s conduct during the period of suspension has been a matter of scrutiny and debate within the legislative body.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, emphasized the senator’s resourcefulness and described him as a valued member of the Senate, adding that the decision to recall him transcends religious and ethnic divides.
