A graduate’s journey of grace: Celebrating birthdays with orphans

By Stephen Akinlolu

Despite being an unemployed graduate, this year marks the fourth time that God has given me, Com. Olagboye Stephen Akinlolu, the grace to celebrate my birthday with orphans at Abiye Orphanage Home in Osogbo, Osun State, by presenting food items such as Indomie, spaghetti, milk, and more. Putting a smile on their faces brings me immense joy because I understand what it means to be an orphan.

I sincerely urge wealthy individuals, the government, and NGOs to emulate this act of kindness. Giving glory to God for granting me the grace to do this, I recognize that it is not because I am rich, but because I believe that nothing is too small to give, and all I have is God’s grace.

The Bible encourages us in James 1:27: “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.”

I also want to acknowledge and thank Rep. Bamidele Salam, whose CALDEV initiative has inspired me in my efforts. His dedication to community development and support for the less fortunate has been a beacon of hope and motivation for many, including myself.

I give thanks to God for the opportunity to share and to bring joy to these children. May we all be inspired to take action, understanding that the smallest act of kindness can make a significant difference in the lives of others.
