Police kill three in Abuja bank robbery

The Nigerian police shot and killed about three robbers in a gun battle during a bank robbery at First Bank in Abaji, Abuja on Thursday.

The 15-man bank robbery was foiled by the combined efforts of the Nigerian Police and the Military.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, on Friday, explains that a distress call was received at about 5:00 PM, which helped the FCT police, led by the Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth Igweh, in a combined operation with the military, to repel the attack.

The statement says that the security forces engaged the armed robbers in an intense gun duel, which led to the apprehension of three suspects, namely, Usman, who was reported to be the gang leader, Nuhu Musa, 41; and Muhammed Aminu, 25, with various degrees of bullet injuries.

One of the police operatives and the gang leader were hit by bullets during the gun duel, and rushed to the hospital were confirmed dead by the doctor on duty, while others are still receiving treatment.

CP Igweh reaffirmed the command’s commitment to ensuring that FCT remains safe for residents.
