…Gboko LG wins All Sec Sch Games 12th time

The Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has said, he remains committed to supporting initiatives that promote wholistic education, including sports.
The Governor stated this on Friday, 22nd November, 2024 at the closing Ceremony of the Benue State All Secondary School Games tagged “Otukpo 2024″organized by the state Teaching Service Board (TSB) held at St. Francis Catholic secondary school, Otukpo.
Represented by the Honorable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Rev. Dr. Frederick L. Ikyaan, the Governor maintained that under his leadership, they will continue to prioritize the development of infrastructure, programs, and opportunities that empower Benue youth to excel in academics, sports, and other talents.
The Commissioner who took the first kick in the final match between St. Paul’s Secondary School, Otukpo and Government Secondary School, Wannune noted that the event is much more than just a competition—”it is a celebration of unity, discipline, talent, and the vibrant energy of our young people.”
He opined that “sports provide a powerful platform to foster values that align closely with our vision for Benue State” which includes: unity, physical fitness, talent development as well as sharpening skills amongst others.
Rev. Ikyaan commmended Teaching Service Board for their consistent efforts in organizing the event, while coaches, school administrators, and teachers, were equally appreciated for their dedication in mentoring the young athletes.
In his remarks, the acting Executive Secretary, TSB, Mr. Tsea Ahule, while commending the Governor for his commitment to sports development through sponsorship since assumption of office however solicited the provision of buses for ease of movement.
This year’s sports fiesta had eleven times winner; Gboko LG clinch the first position making it the twelfth time they are winning with 23 Golds, 13 Silver and 9 Bronze medals, followed by Otukpo LG while Makurdi LG took third position.
