In a bid to enhance service delivery and elevate performance standards in the Federal Civil Service, the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment has launched the Performance Management System (PMS) Day.
The event, which took place at the New Minister’s Conference Room on Thursday, featured the signing of performance contracts by directors in the ministry.
In her welcome address, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, emphasized the importance of the PMS in driving improved service delivery, increased efficiency, and productivity in the national economy.
Ajani noted that the targets of the ministry are drawn from the National Development Plan and the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration. She described the contract signing ceremony as a covenant of accountability and a promise to deliver on the aspirations of President.
The permanent secretary urged directors and officers overseeing departments to see their signatures on the performance contracts as a symbol of their dedication and a pledge to hold themselves accountable for delivering on their departmental functions and responsibilities.
She also announced that the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation has directed all ministries, departments, and agencies to dedicate Thursdays of every week as Performance Management System Day.
The launch of the PMS Day is part of efforts to accelerate the successful institutionalization of the Performance Management System in the service and ministry.
Similar initiatives have been launched in other ministries, including the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, which signed performance contracts with its directors in October 2024.
The Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation also launched its Performance Management System in October 2024.
The Permanent Secretaries of various ministries, including the Common Services Office, Service Policy and Strategies Office, and Career Management Office, have signed performance management contracts to boost efficiency in the Federal Civil Service.
