Abia-North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has formally received his Award Plaque on Constituency Development, marking the third time he has won the prestigious honor. The Senate Committee Chairman on Privatisation emerged as the overall best among 108 of his colleagues, clinching the coveted prize at the Senate Press Corps Award ceremony held at the NICON Luxury Hotel in Abuja.¹

Kalu, who was absent from the ceremony due to pressing legislative duties, was presented with the award by the Leadership of the Senate Press Corps, led by Chairman Mr. James Itodo and newly elected Chairman Mr. Taiye Odewale. The brief ceremony took place at the National Assembly office of the lawmaker, where a citation of Kalu’s achievements was read.

The citation highlighted Kalu’s impressive track record in business and politics, as well as his commitment to constituency development. Kalu has been recognized for his efforts in executing massive developmental projects and promoting healthy communication synergy amongst his colleagues, constituents, and workers within the National Assembly.

In response to receiving the award, Kalu expressed his gratitude and vowed to redouble his efforts in serving his constituents. He emphasized the need to create avenues for rural dwellers to generate income within their localities, citing his recent deal with PowerChina to establish five Agro-Industrial parks worth $500 million in Abia North District.

Kalu’s commitment to constituency development has earned him numerous awards and recognition. He has been rated as one of the top-performing senators in the country, with 25 bills standing in his name. His efforts have also been recognized by reputable organizations, including the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), which awarded him the “Most Outstanding Development-Driven Senator” award in 2023.
