The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) has concluded all arrangements not only to professionalize the transportation sector and integrate it into the national economy, but also give the sector it’s deserved transformation.
This move was made at the inauguration of the 3rd Governing Council, themed “Adoption of Technology in the Transportation Ecosystem,” held in Abuja.
The Minister of Transportation, Senator Sai’du Alkali, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Adeleye Adeoye, acknowledged CIoTA’s significant impact, particularly in shaping the National Land Transport Policy. Senator Alkali noted that Nigeria had previously lacked a comprehensive land transport policy, but progress has been made under the current minister’s leadership, with the policy document now finalized.
CIoTA’s role in promoting education and standards in transport management and administration is crucial, as the institute aims to advance the study, training, and practice of transport management in Nigeria.
The institute’s objectives, as stated in its enabling Act, emphasize the importance of professionalizing the transportation sector.
As CIoTA continues to work towards its goals, its commitment to sector reforms is expected to have a positive impact on Nigeria’s transportation system. With the adoption of technology in the transportation ecosystem, CIoTA is poised to play a lead role in shaping the future of transportation in Nigeria.
The Chartered Institute of Transport Administration of Nigeria (CIoTA) has made significant strides in shaping the country’s transportation sector.
With the National Land Transport Policy document finalized and awaiting approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC), CIoTA’s efforts are poised to guide the future of land transport in Nigeria.
CIoTA President/Chairman, Prince Segun Obayendo, highlighted the need to formalize the transport sector, particularly in road and waterway operations. This formalization will enable accurate measurement of the sector’s contribution to Nigeria’s GDP.
Obayendo emphasized that CIoTA’s goal is to bring transport operators into the formal economy, ensuring they receive proper recognition and respect.
In his remarks, Obayendo commended the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) for its efforts in promoting integrated transportation systems in Lagos. LAMATA’s initiatives, such as the Red Line rail project, aim to provide efficient and reliable transportation services to Lagos residents.
As CIoTA continues to work towards formalizing the transport sector, its commitment to promoting education and standards in transport management and administration remains crucial.
With the National Land Transport Policy set to become a reality, Nigeria’s transportation sector is on the cusp of a significant transformation.
