Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, has reaffirmed the government’s zero-tolerance policy for contractors who fail to deliver on their projects within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
In a press release from Anthony Ogunleye, the Director Press, Office of the Minister, Wike made this statement while addressing journalists in Abuja, shortly after conducting a routine inspection of several critical infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and driving economic development in the Territory.
The inspected projects include the ongoing construction of the 15- kilometer, left side service carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX), and the one service carriageway of the Inner Southern Expressway (INEX) with a 15 span bridge in the Idu Industrial Area.
Wike expressed confidence in the contractors’ ability to deliver high-quality work, praising their performance and capabilities.
However, he emphasized that the government will not hesitate to remove any contractor who fails to meet their contractual obligations.
“We have zero tolerance for contractors who do not perform. If you fail to deliver on your contract, you will be removed without any exceptions,” Wike stated.
The Minister also addressed the revised completion date for the road project, which has been pushed from December-January to May.
He expressed dissatisfaction with the delay, calling it unacceptable.
To expedite the work, Wike directed the Director of Engineering Services at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) to secure a firm commitment from the contractor, CGC, on meeting the revised timeline.
Wike’s commitment to ensuring that contractors deliver on their projects is part of the government’s efforts to enhance the infrastructure and economic development of the FCT.
