The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its dedication to combating Organised Immigration Crime (OIC), with the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, emphasizing the need for enhanced international cooperation and data sharing to effectively control borders, according to a press statement
from Alao Babatunde, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Minister of Interior on Tuesday.
Speaking at the ongoing Border Security Summit in Lancaster House, London, Dr. Tunji-Ojo stressed that collaboration among countries within the Sahel and West African sub-region is crucial for better international partnerships and information dissemination.
“We need more data sharing and better collaborations to ensure we don’t just solve the problem but prevent it from happening,” Dr. Tunji-Ojo said, highlighting the importance of proactiveness in addressing immigration challenges.
The summit, hosted by UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, aims to foster cooperation among nations in tackling organized immigration crime and strengthening border security.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s remarks come as the Nigerian government continues to prioritize border security and immigration reform, with efforts to prevent irregular migration and human trafficking.
