FG declares April 18th, 21st public holidays for Easter, Good Friday

By Abba Onyekachukwu, Abuja

The Federal Government (FG) has announced Friday, April 18th, and Monday, April 21st, 2025, as public holidays to commemorate Good Friday and Easter Monday respectively.

In a press statement from Dr Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary, Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the Minister made the declaration in a press statement on Tuesday, extending heartfelt congratulations to Christians nationwide.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized the importance of emulating Jesus Christ’s virtues of sacrifice, love, and forgiveness, just as he urged Nigerians to use the holiday to pray for peace, unity, and stability in the country.

Reassuring Nigerian citizens of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, aimed at fostering national growth and development, he says that the declaration is in line with previous government announcements, highlighting the administration’s dedication to respecting and celebrating significant religious holidays.

The Minister encouraged Nigerians to display kindness, generosity, and love towards one another, particularly towards the less privileged, during the Easter celebration.

This message echoes the sentiments of previous years, where the government has emphasized the importance of unity, peace, and stability during festive periods.
