The Kunav Development Association (KUDA) Multipurpose Cooperative Society Ltd., Abuja chapter has reiterated it’s commitment towards ensuring inclusive development that will empower their community.
This was the thrust of the outcome of its 2025 Cooperative Summit during which it reaffirmed its commitment to economic empowerment and community development through cooperative principles.
The conference with the theme: “Cooperative Synergy: Uniting for Success,” brought together prominent sons and daughters of Vandeikya local government area of Benue state, cooperative leaders, economic analysts, development experts, and stakeholders from across Nigeria to explore strategies for harnessing collective strength for sustainable growth.
In his welcome address, Sir Aondoakaa Emmanuel, KSM, FCA, MFR, Chairman of KUDA Multipurpose Cooperative Society, described the summit as a watershed moment in the cooperative’s journey since its inception in September 2022.
“This event marks a significant milestone in our cooperative’s remarkable journey. Our theme is a testament to our unwavering commitment to collaboration, mutual support, and collective growth”, he stated.
Sir Emmanuel highlighted the evolution of the cooperative into a vibrant organization with 36 active members and commended the contributions of key individuals to its growth.
He acknowledged the foundational leadership of Engr. Pius Ioryue Uganden, former KUDA President, as well as Arch. Bernard Yisa for his generosity in facilitating the venue.
Delivering his opening remarks, Mr. Emmanuel Haaga, President of KUDA FCT Abuja, underscored the transformative potential of cooperative models in addressing economic challenges at the grassroots level.
“Through cooperative finance, we can empower our members economically, stimulate innovation, and improve livelihoods, Let us work together to build a brighter future for ourselves, our communities, and generations to come”, Mr. Haaga added.
A major highlight of the event was the goodwill message delivered by Engr. Pius Ioryue Uganden, who recalled the organization’s founding vision and its trajectory over the years.
“It is truly humbling to be here, witnessing the growth and vibrancy of an organization that, just a few short years ago, was but an idea nurtured with great hope and vision,” he said.
Engr. Uganden praised KUDA’s adherence to core cooperative values such as self-help, democracy, equity, transparency, and social responsibility, which he described as “the living, breathing essence” of cooperative success. He encouraged members to remain adaptable and innovative in the face of emerging economic and technological realities.
“The current landscape presents immense possibilities for cooperatives to leverage technology, expand their reach, and forge new partnerships,” Uganden said, calling on members to embrace both the challenges and opportunities of the future.
He concluded with a rousing call to action:“Let us unite, not just in thought, but in deed. Let us continue to build strong, resilient, and impactful KUDA cooperatives that empower individuals, enrich communities, and contribute significantly to our nation’s sustainable development.”
The summit which was declared open by Prof. Bolaji Babatunde, a Special Assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) also featured panel featuring prominent subject experts including: Dr. Tyoachimin Donald, Rev. Nicholas Peter Terhemba Agule, Group Head, Citizens Charity and Victoria Bus Company Ltd; John A. Hemen, Overseeing Officer/Chie Executive, SEDI, Minna and Amb. Ahokar Aper Felix discussed the topic: Cooporative Finance and Economic Empowerment.
Dr. Boniface Verr Jirbo, CEO, Iceberg Consulting Limited in another panel handled the topic: “Hamessing the Power of Cooperatives: Strategies for Sustainable Growth and Community Development alongside with Prof. Mku Thaddeus Ityokumbu, a retired Professor of Mining and Dr, Fanen Ade, Social Protection Specialist, World Bank Country Offices,Abuja Nigeria/Freetown-Sierra Leone.
The summit was not solely focused on policy and strategy. Attendees also enjoyed a vibrant social programme that included cultural dance performances, an American-style auction, and extensive networking sessions, reflecting the cooperative’s commitment to fostering unity and shared experiences.
As the summit concluded, delegates left with a renewed sense of purpose and unity, energized to drive the cooperative movement forward in their communities and across Nigeria.
The event underscored KUDA’s growing influence in the cooperative space and reaffirmed the relevance of cooperatives as a viable vehicle for inclusive economic growth. In the words of Chairman Emmanuel: “Let’s move the KUDA Cooperative to a level we shall all admire.”
Highlights of the occasion included a spectacular display of Tiv cultural dance, display of basket of fruits as well as presentation of certificates to shareholders.
