1. Two Murder Suspects Escape Custody in High-Profile Case of Hon. Justice Azuka

The Follow Me Talk Human Rights and Anti-Intimidation Initiative has received disturbing reports regarding the escape of two key suspects involved in the kidnapping and gruesome murder of Hon. Justice Azuka , the Honourable Member representing Onitsha north Constituency I in the Anambra State House of Assembly.

The incident has triggered deep public outrage and concern, especially considering the high-profile nature of the victim, a sitting lawmaker. It is imperative that the Anambra State Police Command through the effort of CSP Ifeanyi iburu takes swift action to re-arrest the escaped suspects and provide clarity on how such a breach of security occurred under custodial watch.

This escape not only raises questions of internal accountability but demands transparency to restore public trust.

2. CSP Ifeanyi Iburu Was Not Present During the escaped of the Arrest suspects: Facts Matter

As speculations spread, Follow Me Talk Human Rights and Anti-Intimidation Initiative wishes to categorically clarify that CSP Ifeanyi Iburu, Commander of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Awkuzu, was not present involved in the controversial operation that led to the go out for another arrest of the remaining suspects as was pointed and subsequent escape of the suspects.

At the time of the arrest, CSP Iburu was on official assignment in Enugu State, facilitating the transfer of suspects from the Enugu State Police Command to the Anambra State Police Command — a task directly tied to his role as commander.

To misrepresent his absence as negligence or complicity is both unjust and misleading. His assignment during the period was an administrative and strategic responsibility, not a field-level operation.

3. A Reformer in Uniform: CSP Iburu’s Record Speaks for Itself

Since taking over as the 4th Commander of RRS Awkuzu on 19th February 2024, CSP Iburu has demonstrated exceptional leadership and professional excellence.

He successfully dismantled land grabbing cartels operating in Awka and Ezinaulo.

He led anti-cybercrime raids in Nkpor that resulted in dozens of arrests and digital evidence recovery.

He tracked and re-arrested high-risk escapees who fled to Ghana, showcasing international law enforcement cooperation.

CSP Iburu’s tenure has brought about a visible transformation in the RRS, and he remains one of the few officers with a strong ethical backbone and reformist agenda.

4. Rebuilding Public Trust Post-EndSARS: The CSP Iburu Standard

The aftermath of the #EndSARS protests left Nigerians yearning for transparent, accountable, and non-brutal policing. CSP Iburu has emerged as a beacon of what law enforcement can be when led with discipline and compassion.

His reforms at RRS Awkuzu include:

Community engagement and collaboration with civil society.

Professional handling of sensitive cases like Kosisochukwu and Daberechukwu Asadu, without intimidation or media suppression.

Promotion of procedural integrity over reactive force.

His physical absence during the controversial arrest aligns with a system of structured delegation, not evasion. Officers like him must be protected from media sensationalism and witch-hunts.

5. Our National Appeal: Honour Those Who Uphold the Badge with Dignity

Follow Me Talk Human Rights and Anti-Intimidation Initiative, in solidarity with other civil voices and broadcasters such as Uncle AJ (Samuel Nzeh) of Love FM 104.5 Abuja, makes this national call:

To the:

Chairman Nigeria Police Service Commission

Inspector General of Police

Minister of Police Affairs

Police Affairs Committee of the National Assembly

We urge you to:

Promote CSP Ifeanyi Iburu.

Confer upon him a National Honour for Meritorious Service.

While others make noise, he has made impact. While some flee responsibility, he stands at the frontlines of reform.

Let us remember that integrity in uniform is rare, and when we find it, we must honour it — not tarnish it.
