The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Chairmanship contestant, in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr Obinna Simon, popularly known as MC Tagwaye has vowed to give the area council its deserved and positive transformation, if voted into office, come 2026 Area Council election.
The Nando in Anambra East – born teacher cum politician said this on Thursday, when he paid a condolence visit to indigenes of Idu in the nation’s capital at the loss of one of their illustrious sons, Abdulahi Bako.
Stating that what they will offer will be different from what are being offered presently, says that the difference are progress, social justice, people oriented leadership, among others are what we want to offer.
Reminding him that Nigerian politicians are known for not keeping to their promises and how will the people know that he will live up to his promises, he says as a young man with prospects in the future, he will not rubbish the opportunity if given, even as he adds that he will need the elders in his government, due to their wisdom and experience.
On the public offices he has ever held and excelled, to convince the electorates, he has this to say: “I’ve not held any public office. I’ve never been a civil servant in my life. I was, at a point in my life a classroom teacher for seven, eight years. So if there’s any office you can think of, that’s one of the most productive office I have held, and in that office I have produced a lot of students, graduates, even PhD holders as we speak.”
On his motivation, he says: The motivation is the people; to help the people. You are here in this community. Are you happy with what you are seeing? You are not happy. That is the reason for our emergency.
Responding to more questions, he says that he doesn’t come to hijack power from anybody, but as a Nigerian indigene, he has come to make a positive difference in AMAC, adding: “There is no power to be hijacked. It is earned and it is being given by God and the people.”
Recalled that he has recently declared this his intention officially at a news conference he organized in Abuja to that effect, highlighting his commitments to, among others, transforming the area council and addressing long standing issues, even as he promised more inclusive, progressive and sustainable AMAC, if elected into office.
