In a heartwarming display of appreciation and support, Prof. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), presented N5 million worth of cheques to the next of kin of two brave personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
The presentation, held at the NSCDC headquarters, coincided with the decoration of 22 officers to the rank of Assistant Commandant General (ACG), underscoring the Corps’ commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.
The gesture was made to provide relief and support to the families of CCA Anyamele Justice and AIC Bello Bako Musa, who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation.
The presentation of cheques to the families of the slain personnel was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by NSCDC personnel in the line of duty.
The Commandant General’s gesture demonstrated the Corps’ appreciation for the sacrifices of its personnel and its commitment to supporting their families.
The duo of the cheque presentation and the officers decoration however conceded on Wednesday at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.
While sympathizing with the families of the officers who died on duty, as well as advising them to use the money wisely, the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, charged the newly promoted ACGs of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to reawaken their consciousness and justify their promotion by ensuring sustained diligence, patriotism, fairness, and integrity in the discharge of their responsibilities.
This charge was made during a ceremony held to congratulate the newly promoted officers on their achievement.
Also in an open remark delivered on behalf of the Minister, the Secretary of the Civil Defence, Fire, Correctional and Immigration Services Board (CDFIB), Major General Abdulmalik Jubril (Rtd), emphasized that promotion is a call to responsibility that comes with higher tasks and accountability.
He urged the Senior Management Officers to project exemplary lives worthy of emulation, noting that they are expected to live above expectations and build the incoming generation to sustain the good legacies of the Corps.
Hear him: “As I congratulate you on your new promotions; let me on behalf of the Interior Minister charge you to justify the confidence reposed in you as it is required that you live above expectations and build incoming generation to sustain the good legacies of the Corps.”
Similarly, the NSCDC Commandant General (CG), Prof. Abubakar Ahmed Audi, admonished the officers to continue working relentlessly with absolute loyalty and dedication to tackle emerging security threats in the country.
He also urged them to exhibit professionalism and integrity in mentoring their subordinates, highlighting the importance of leadership by example, adding: You should know that promotion means assignment into more responsibilities. So to whom more is given, more is expected. Therefore you are expected to live up to expectations.”
Abubakar Ahmed Audi commended the renewed hope and innovative policies of the Minister of Interior, which have resulted in clearing the promotion backlogs and stagnation in the service. He pledged his administration’s determination to sustain this momentum, ensuring that the Corps continues to address security challenges effectively.
The Minister’s efforts have strengthened the capacity of the Corps to address security challenges, promote economic stability, enhance the welfare of personnel, and foster collaboration between the Corps and other agencies.
Other highlights of the event were goodwill messages by Major General MK Yunusa (Rtd), Controller General of Corrections and Corps Marshall of the Federal Road Safety Corps, who were represented by their subordinates.
These messages underscored the importance of collaboration and cooperation among security agencies in achieving common goals.
The Officer in Charge of Legal, Commandant of Corpa, Bamiyo Akomolafe, administered the Oath of Allegiance to the newly promoted ACGs, reminding them of their duty to uphold the Constitution and defend the nation.
On behalf of the newly elevated officers, one of them, ACG Majekodunmi promised that they would strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the NSCDC in line with the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended.
However, the ceremony marked an important milestone in the careers of the newly promoted ACGs, who were charged to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity.
As they assume their new roles, they are expected to provide leadership and guidance to their subordinates, while also contributing to the overall effectiveness of the NSCDC in addressing security challenges and promoting national stability.
