The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barrister Nyesom Wike, has flagged off the Lot 2 Karu water supply project within the Abuja Municipal Area Council.
This project, according to a press release from Rami Umaru Musa the Assistant Director Press Office of the Minister, is part of the FCT administration’s efforts to provide clean and potable water to residents of the FCT and its satellite towns.
The project involves the installation of a 194-kilometer network of water pipelines and will provide treated water to residents of Karu, Orozo, Kurudu, and other neighboring communities.
The project, the release went, is expected to be completed by June 2026, thanks to the approval of 50% payment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister emphasized the administration’s commitment to the development of the FCT satellite towns, highlighting other key infrastructure initiatives in the region.
These include the recent rehabilitation of a 17-kilometer access road connecting Karu, Jikwoyi, Orozo, Kurudu, and Karshi. The Minister also pledged to reconstruct a two-kilometer road within the Karu site area.
The Karu water project is expected to:
provide safe, potable water to residents, reducing reliance on untreated water sources, generate direct and indirect employment opportunities during the construction phase, I and improve the overall quality of life for residents in the FCT satellite towns.
Barr Ezenwo Nyesom Wike urged residents to support the contractor, China Geoengineering Construction (CGC), to ensure timely completion of the project, just as he encouraged residents to align with leaders who have a track record of performance, citing the achievements of Senator Aduda and the AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu.
