…Mbagba community assures of support, prayers
The Commissioner for Marine and Blue Economy in Benue State, Hon. Denis Ter Iyaighgba, has reiterated his commitment to the administration of Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, promising to serve with integrity and excellence in his new role.
Head of Media, publicity and Orientation in the ministry, Mr. Lubem Gena in a press release made available to News Headquarters said Hon. Iyaighgba made the pledge at a colourful “Meet and Greet” event organised in his honour by the Mbagba community worldwide on Sunday in Makurdi.
The gathering attracted prominent indigenes, political leaders, academics, clerics, and community elders who came together to celebrate the appointment of one of their own into the state’s executive council.
In their separate speeches, speakers including Dr. Dorothy Hure (Permanent Secretary, Rural Development), Dr. Moses Haakyaa (President of Mbagba Community worldwide), Rev. Sr. Justina Jôv, Dr. Wuese Tyopev, Hon. Mark Shie, Hon. Tor Gabo (Deputy Majority Whip of the Benue state House of Assembly, Hon. Terver Orduen (former Ushongo local government chairman), and elder statesman Orkum Ikyôive, congratulated Hon. Iyaighgba on his elevation.
They commended Governor Alia for recognizing the competence and loyalty of their son, describing the appointment as well deserved. The speakers charged the Commissioner to remain a beacon of hope and a shining example of leadership, urging him to replicate the successes he recorded in previous assignments.
According to Dr. Hure, the appointment of Iyaighgba “is not just a personal honour but a collective pride for the Mbagba people,” adding that his wealth of experience and humility will enrich the workings of the new Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. Similarly, Dr. Haakyaa expressed optimism that the Commissioner would “deploy his intellect and energy to attract meaningful development to the state.”
Rev. Sr. Justina Jôv described him as a God-fearing leader whose past record of service speaks volumes, while Hon. Terver Orduen called on him to remain steadfast and live up to the expectations of both the government and the people.
Elder Orkum Ikyôive, speaking on behalf of the elders, noted that the community stands firmly behind Hon. Iyaighgba and will continue to support him with prayers and wise counsel.
Responding, the Commissioner expressed deep gratitude to his kinsmen for the show of solidarity, describing their gesture as both humbling and inspiring.
He thanked Governor Alia for reposing confidence in him with the pioneering responsibility of steering the newly created Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.
“I stand here today, not just as Denis Iyaighgba, but as a representative of the Mbagba community and indeed the larger Benue family. I promise to be a worthy ambassador, to serve with dedication, and to contribute my quota to the success of the Alia administration”, he added.
He assured that his ministry would pursue initiatives that harness Benue’s aquatic resources, stimulate economic growth, and open new opportunities for employment and investment.
The event climaxed with cultural displays and prayers for the Commissioner’s success, leaving no doubt that the Mbagba community has thrown its full weight behind one of its illustrious sons.
