BNSG to relocate those on River Benue Bank 

The Benue state Government through ministry of Lands, Survey and Solid Minerals has disclosed plans to relocate people along the bank of River Benue whose houses fall within 100 meters radius in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner in charge of the ministry, Rev. Dr. Frederick Ikyaan made this disclosure on Friday, 31st October, 2025 in his office in Makurdi while briefing Wurukum community stakeholders over plans to carryout the exercise soon.

According a statement made available to our correspondent by Akaha Sule, the
Media Assistant to the Honorable Commissioner, Rev. Dr. Ikyaan informed that, government was going to create a layout and relocate them, saying they are doing that to avoid flooding that leads to loss of lives and destruction of properties that has been affecting the people and sued for cooperation.

He hinted that the Federal Government has plans to construct a dam along the river which is going to worsen the already bad situation of flooding, which the government is trying to curtail. He urged the stakeholders to sensitize their people accordingly.

Responding, Kindred head of Wurukum, Chief Simon Ugondo Tov said the community is happy with the development posture of the Governor and as such cannot reject this move which he described as a welcome development.

Also speaking, Chief Nuhu Apake, Chief Abdulsalam Amanke and Hon. Dennis Adanji, all appreciated the move by the government and timely information, adding that government should equally consider them for employment opportunities.

On their parts, Legal Adviser of the community, Barrister Peter Atuba and Engr. Amos Yange threw their weight behind the project. They opined that they are proud of what the Governor is doing and supported the initiative which will alleviate their sufferings.

The Commissioner was accompanied during the meeting by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Mrs. Eunice Ihu and directors of the ministry.
