HoD: Congratulations Prof. Ken Azaigba

By Ikpanor Agege Shar

Prof. Azaigba is a three times graduate of Benue State University, Makurdi in the Department of History, majoring in Economic History.

When I came to Benue State University in the 2002/2003 academic session, Prof. Azaigba was in 400L and the President of Students Historical Society of Nigeria (SHSN).

He would always be in the Departmental Library, reading and also putting us through assignments as a senior student. When I first met him, I thought he was a Lecturer in the Department because of his deep knowledge of History. He graduated and left us, building the spirit of hardwork and role model for some of us.

Prof. Azaigba came back to the Department this time as a postgraduate student. He enrolled for M. A. but we will only become close during his PhD programme. He encouraged me by his determination and zeal to research. He would tell me that his intentions were to obtain his PhD before looking for job. A dream he fulfilled.

He played a silent role in my life, striving to emulate his zeal and commitment to research and publications. I also looked at him as a big brother, adding to several other senior academics and researchers that were guiding me through the academic journey.

Prof. Azaigba joined Federal University, Dustinma, Katsina State where he has enjoyed a prolific academic career, steadily climbing the ladder of Professorship with a letter given to him but awaiting announcement on Senate. Prof. Azaigba has held several administrative positions in the University, culminating to today’s election as the Head of Department (HOD), History & Strategic Studies, Federal University Dutsinma, Katsina State.

He has joined other graduates of History Department, Benue State University who have also held a similar position in their respective Universities. They include, Prof. Terhemba Wuam, Prof. Elizabeth Yecho, Prof. Uji Wilfred, Prof. Sylvester Igbasue Ugbegili, Dr. Teddy Ityonzughul and many others.

Dear colleagues and friends, join me in celebrating our worthy brother and colleague, a prolific writer and Historian of repute, Prof. Kenneth Azaigba as we also pray for his success tenure in Jesus name, Amen.
