House of Representatives Public Accounts Committee Chairman, Rep. Bamidele Salam has charged public officials with training and retraining to improve public finance management.
The lawmaker made the statement on Thursday, July 4th, 2024 at the closing of a national workshop on current trends in public sector accounting Organised by the African Development Studies Center (ADSC).
The workshop held at the Four Points by Sheraton in Lagos, brought together top government functionaries to discuss best practices in public finance management.
In his keynote address, Rep. Salam emphasized the importance of constant training and retraining in public finance management to drive growth, development, and efficient delivery of mandates by government ministries, departments, and agencies.
He explained that effective public financial management is crucial for achieving national goals and promoting transparency and accountability in government.
Salam said the workshop aimed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to navigate the complexities of public sector accounting and finance.
He dwelled more on the 21st century guidelines on budgeting, financial reporting, and audit practices.
Rep. Salam closed the workshop by encouraging public officials on the need for continuous capacity building in public finance management to ensure effective governance and sustainable development.
