FCT community, Gwagwa goes agog, as indigenes present new Village Head

The ancient city of Gwagwa, located in the City Centre in Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) experienced uncontrollable and peaceful celebration, as a result of presentation of a new Village Head to the public, His Royal Highness Abubakar Abdulahi 2nd Gwagwa, reports Abba – Eku Onyeka.

Following the passing on of the village Chief of Gwagawa, late Chief Shuaibu Mamman Barau from the Chieftaincy House of Abdulahi Sarkin Nagari, the indigenes of the ancient city had to crown, Chief Abubakar Abdulahi 2nd from the other Chieftaincy House of Pada, as the new traditional ruler, according to the custom, culture, norms and tradition of the ancient community.

After the enthronement, according to the age long tradition of the community, he is expected to be in his house for a period of time and is brought out to the public for presentation at the completion of the said period when he is expected to be in his house.

At the completion and presentation, the ancient community is expected to come out to celebrate his presentation with cultural and traditional music, which was done, and it attracted entertainments of all sorts, ranging from native and non native musics and songs, other cultural displays and multitude of people in attendance.

Speaking on behalf of the palace, the palace secretary, Ismaila Bala hailed the multitude of people in attendance, saying that they didn’t expect the crowd who came to witness the occasion. He treated the belief that the youth can’t keep the culture, tradition and customs of the community with a wave of his hands, explaining that they have a very rich culture that isn’t inconsistent with either the 1999 Constitutional (as reversed in 2011) or natural justice, equity and good conscience.

Still defending their stand, he informed that as youths, they still have about 70% of the elders as cabinet members, adding that they can’t do anything without their consent, consultation and permission.

To enable the community to move forward, according to him, the new ruler and his cabinet members will be collaborating with the government and attract development to the community, which will be beneficial to the indigenes and non indigenes, as well as companies too.

Hailing the government for their efforts so far, as well requesting for employment generation for the youths, which if done will reduce to the barest minimum, vices of all kinds, he urged them to provide them with functional amenities, such as pipe born water, electricity, health centre, schools, even as he promised to ensure that his people will continue to be law abiding.

He also called for the government’s support to promote their culture, which if also done will make them not to forget their roots, language, among others. He however prayed that may God guide and protect those who graced their occasion, so whenever they want to do their own, his people shall also grace theirs in good faith, peace and love.
